About Ignacio

Ignacio Villegas, AIFD, has been around flowers all his life. He comes by his ability to arrange and create outstanding floral designs naturally.  From the time he was five years old, Ignacio has fond memories of watching his mother arrange classic gladiolas in old clay vases in her small flower shop in their native Mexico.

At the age of 14, Ignacio came to the United States to study English and stayed, following in his mother's footsteps by joining the floral industry in 1974. For more than twenty years, Ignacio Villegas has worked hard to create Unique flowers that have made him a recognized leader in California’s Santa Clara Valley. His hard work and dedication paid off and he is now the proud owner of Unique Flowers, a full-service florist in San Jose.

In 1994, Ignacio was accepted as a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers.  (AIFD) To be inducted, a candidate must fulfill a series of demanding criteria to demonstrate advanced professional ability together with proven design skill .  The candidate also has to submit a portfolio of photographs in addition to an actual on-site demonstration under examination conditions.

With this level of professional scrutiny, it is no surprise that Ignacio is one of just three AIFD members in the South Bay Area.
 

Awards and Honors

As member of American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD), Ignacio Villegas has won many awards and honors. Some recent achievements:

• Consecutive First Place awards in the prestigious Mt. Eden Competition 3 times  1995 and 1996 and 1998. 
   
• Ignacio was chosen by AIFD to participate in designing floral arrangements for the Clinton Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. January 16-21, 1997.
